Landscape Institute of the Arnold Arboretum

 Course Title:

Site Inventory for Sustainable Landscaping

Landscape Institute of the Arnold Arboretum, Harvard University

American Heritage Dictionary, 3rd ed.: "Forensic: adj. 1. Relating to, used in, or appropriate for courts of law or for public discussion or argumentation. 2. Of, relating to, or used in debate or argument; rhetorical. [From Latin forensis, public, of a forum, from forum.]"

Colloquially the word is used to mean studies designed to elucidate technical analytical methods and findings, interpreted for the lay public, as needed in court proceedings, civil or criminal.

Environmental Forensics is here considered to cover all historical or current processes which shape landforms, provide habitat for plants and animals, or indicate special permits or environmental concerns.

The JPG picture at left is a reduced definition illustration of the Cut-leaf Beech, taken from the course text: Botany Everywhere. This tree is a European cultivar, not part of any native landscapes.
